Twelve year old Roanoke Rapids native Maci Beaver competed Saturday in sub-regionals of the 2017 Drive, Chip and Putt golf tournament in South Carolina.
The Drive, Chip and Putt Championship (DCP) is a free nationwide junior golf development competition aimed at growing the game by focusing on the three fundamental skills employed in golf. By tapping the creative and competitive spirit of girls and boys ages 7-15, the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship provides aspiring junior golfers an opportunity to play with their peers in qualifiers around the country. Participants who advance through local, sub-regional and regional qualifying in each age/gender category earn a place in the National Finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by Golf Channel.
The Chaloner Middle school 8th grader is competing in the girls 12-13 age group. Beaver qualified for the sub-regional by placing second out of fourteen this past July 7th in the local level in Wilmington NC with the top two advancing. The Sub-regional was held this past Saturday at Fort Jackson Golf Club in Columbia South Carolina and Beaver finished third out of eighteen contestants, earning an alternate position for the regionals. As the local tournament the top two advance, but if either of those girls can not attend the regional, Beaver will fill in and advance.
Last week August 20th, Beaver won the Jr. Club Champion at Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon shooting a 80.
Beaver is the daughter of Sean and Denise Beaver of Roanoke Rapids.
