Williams earns 22nd double double in win

SALEM, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team downed EMU 71-58 in the ODAC quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) recorded her 22nd double-double of the season, scoring a game high 22 points and a grabbing a season best 22 rebounds in the win.

Randolph-Macon (16-11, 8-8 ODAC) advances to the semifinal game where it will play #1 Lynchburg at 6 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center.

Randolph-Macon trailed EMU 16-15 with under a minute to go in the first period. The Yellow Jackets would then go on an 11-0 run from the end of the first period until midway through the second period.

Freshman Kelly Williams gathered her double-double by half time with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She went 5 of 8 from the floor. Junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) had eight points in the first half.  

Randolph-Macon held EMU to just six points in the first six minutes of the period and increased its lead to 16. R-MC outscored the Royals 20-11 in the third period.

To start the fourth period, the Royals went on an 8-0 run before freshman Michal Ross (Glen Allen, Va./ Glen Allen) knocked down a jumper to stop the momentum. Ross would finish with eight points.

Randolph-Macon outrebounded EMU 48-34. Williams had a season high 22 rebounds, while junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) had nine rebounds. Willliams and Lee combined for eight of the teams 12 assists in the game.

Sophomore Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./ Central York) hit a team high three three pointers for nine points.

R-MC and Lynchburg met two weeks ago in Ashland where the Yellow Jackets were victorious with a 77-75 overtime win.
