The Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets Soccer team dropped their season conference opener at home to Durham School of the Arts 0-4 Monday night at Hoyle field.
Roanoke Rapids goalie Kristy Price had 35 saves in goal for the Jackets. "Kristy Price put on a heck of a show tonight. Just to watch her in goal was worth the price of admission. 35 saves and very few were easy. She is going to have a much needed magical season this year," stated head coach Craig Jean.
Post match comments from head coach Craig Jean, "I am very, very proud of my team's effort tonight. We have so many new players- we will rarely be the most skilled team all around, but we played extremely hard for 80 minutes and their best effort is all I can ask for. I only had a couple subs and I knew my kids were exhausted. We focus on fitness at practice, but it still doesn't get you ready for 80 minutes at the pace we have to play at. It says a lot about the character of the girls on this team- not just as athletes, but as people. They continued to work hard and fight- even when the game was out of reach. They were beat up, sore and their tanks were on empty, but they did not quit. None of them. We showed significant improvement from the Hertford County game to tonight. We will continue to work hard to keep getting better."
