A new urology system is making life better for both patients and medical staff at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

The system comes in part from a grant provided by The Dominion Foundation, the charitable arm of Dominion North Carolina.
The grant was provided as part of a capital campaign on behalf of the Halifax Regional Foundation to purchase new urology equipment.
The system provides a new approach to patient care as it’s the first dedicated digital urology imaging system ever developed.
The system uses optimized geometry and a large field of view image intensifier for maximum coverage, sharper images and enhanced comfort.
Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer among men and the death rate from prostate cancer in North Carolina is one of the highest in the nation.
“Due to the staggering statistics of bladder and prostate cancer among North Carolinians, Halifax Regional took a stand to provide the Roanoke Valley with access to the best equipment and treatment possible and we’re happy to support their work,” said Pam Pekrun, external affairs manager of Dominion.
HRMC has already found the system to be more effective in better diagnosing patients and allowing for quicker procedures and more effective patient care.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of The Dominion Foundation,” said Will Mahone, Halifax Regional president and CEO. “It’s a great feeling to see our goal of being the leading partner in the health of Roanoke Valley residents supported in such a substantial way.”
