The 4/10-of-a-mile oval track located one mile west of Capron on Route 58, Southampton Motor Speedway was opened in 1991 as a dirt track and later paved in 2006 and closed in 2008.
The effort by new track owner Carrie Denney with many volunteers in the one year timeframe of working endless hours are one step closer to paying off with the reopening of SMS.
The track held a car show Saturday March 10th and announce it would have an opening event set for May 6, 2017. More details such as divisions, race schedule would be released at a later date.
Approximately 25 cars sat on display on the front stretch for hours as race fans and car enthusiast just checked them out. Food venders, kid blow-up slides and venders set up in the infield. There was a slow drag race and even an ugly truck contest.
