The Roanoke Rapids High School Yellow Jackets Varsity Baseball team traveled to Durham on Tuesday afternoon to take on the NC School of Science and Math Unicorns.
The Yellow Jackets defeated the Unicorns by a score of 19-0.
Josh Elias picked up the win on the mound for the Jackets pitching a complete game, Five inning mercy rule shutout. Elias only allowed one hit for the game.
On offense the Jackets had a great afternoon. All 14 players on the team reached base during the game.
Post game coach Mark Snead stated, "The score of this game does not show the quality team that NCSSM is. It is more a testament of how well we played today. Josh was excellent on the mound. He is so consistent for us. And when runners got on base our defense was their to back Josh up and keep the shutout in tact. Our offense took a little while to get going, but after one time through the order we made some adjustments and they paid off. This was a big win for us. I am proud of how we played as a team today."
With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Northern Carolina Conference. RRHS will now play a non-conference game against Hertford County on Wednesday evening. Game time is set for 6 pm.
