The Roanoke Rapids High school Yellow Jackets Varsity Baseball team defeated the Durham School of the Arts by a score of 18-2 on Thursday night at Doyle Field and this win was the 250th for the RRHS Varsity Baseball team since head coach Mark Snead took over as Varsity Head Coach back in 2001.
The Yellow Jackets used 5 different pitchers during the game. Colby Warren, Aaron Jackson, Tyler Shearin, Jordan Collins, and Hunter Connell each pitched one inning in the game. The five pitchers combined to strike out 12 Bulldog batters.
On offense, RRHS pounded out 16 hits to lead to their 18 runs. The offense was led by Tyler Liverman with 4 hits, Marcus Allen with 3 hits, and Cameron Rogerson and Peyton Jackson with 2 hits each. Josh Elias, Colby Warren, Aaron Jackson, Cameron Salmon, and Tommy Bradley each had 1 hit as well.
Coach Mark Snead stated, "I really like the way we played tonight. Playing a team twice in one week is tough, but our guys handled really well. I challenged the guys to go out and play Yellow Jacket baseball and they responded. We had great pitching and defense tonight and our offense stayed hot all night. I was really happy that all the guys got to play and help contribute to this win."
With the win the RRHS improves to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will hit the road on Monday when they travel to take on Bunn in a key Northern Carolina Conference matchup. The JV game starts at 4pm with the Varsity game to follow.
