The Roanoke Rapids High School Varsity Yellow Jackets Baseball team was defeated by South Granville Vikings on Friday night at Doyle Field by a score of 10-2.
Josh Elias took the loss on the mound, but was relieved by Tyler Shearin and Jordan Collins.
The Yellow Jackets were led on offense by Marcus Allen with 3 hits, Colby Warren with 2 hits (double and RBI), and Cameron Rogerson and Tommy Bradley (double) with 1 hit each.
Post game comments by Jackets head Coach Mark Snead stated, "We picked the wrong time to play our worst game of the year. South Granville is a strong team and you can't beat them without playing a near perfect game. As I told our team, the best thing you can possess as a baseball player is a short memory. We will learn from this and get better as the season moves on. I have confidence in every one of these guys that they will bounce back and be better than ever our next time out. I have talked all year about how our team chemistry is one of our biggest assets and I know the guys will rally together and be a stronger team after tonight."
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets drop to 12-3 on the season and 9-2 in the conference. RRHS will now prepare for the Ray Avery Easter Tournament at Ayden Grifton High School. The first game for the Yellow Jackets will be next Saturday at 4:30pm against Bear Grass Charter.
