The Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets softball team hosted the defending 2A State champions South Granville Lady Vikings Friday night.
The 12-0 Lady Vikings entered Roanoke Rapids having allowed only nine total runs from four different teams in twelve games. Friday wasn't any different. The Lady Vikings shutout the Lady Jackets 4-0.
The Jackets had seven hits to South Granville's eight hits, but the Jackets eight runners left on base hurt the Roanoke Rapids team. Third base is as close as the Jackets would make it on the bases.
Haley Farrow and Abbi Carpenter had two singles each, Breanna Allen had a double and Michelle Stewart and Meagan Colston had a single each.
Breanna Allen pulled the complete seven innings on the mound for the Jackets allowing eight hits, walking three batters and only striking out one batter.
Post game comments from Lady Jackets head coach Steve Milligan, "It was a tough loss, but pleased with the teams effort. We held the number one 2A team/ number ten team in the state according to MaxPreps to only four runs and all were unearned. We must learn how to execute the bunt better. We had runners in scoring position but could not advance them and had some opportunities."
The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets host Greensville JH Rose High Friday April 14th at 11AM in game one of the "Battle of the Border" tournament with Virginia's Brunswick Academy taking on Greenbrier Academy at 2 PM. then the two losers play Saturday April 15th at 11AM and the two winners play for the Championship at 2PM.
