Christian Buffaloe recently won the Japan sponsored "Kyokushin Karate AAOC Championships" in New York in the 17 year old category, he gained entry into a world event in Japan this month.
This tournament served as a qualifying event for entry in the "2017 Kyokushin Karate International Teen Elite Championships" on April 15th in Tokyo, Japan. This is the top full contact martial arts championship in the world and only the best competitors from each continent are allowed to enter. By winning 1st Place at the New York tournament, Christian is now a major contender for the world teen title. This will be his last opportunity to compete as a youth competitor (he will be 18 in November). Also, Kyokushin Karate has finally been included in the OLYMPICS in Tokyo in 2020 and Buffaloe and his father/trainer Kenny Buffaloe are very excited by the possiblities. By competing at high level in this upcoming International(World) Championships, it may also open the door for Olympic participation later.
C.B.S. TV 17 did a recent news feature about Christian's participation in the "2017 Kyokushin International Teen Elite Championships" in Japan on April 15th. It shows the training methods and fighting strategies Christian uses in preparation for this world event. Kenny uses an "old school" approach when he trains Christian and he concentrates on power, speed, stamina, and conditioning in addition to the technical aspects. Because Kyokushin Karate is full contact, knockdown style fighting, a competitor must be well rounded in his preparation. Kenny Buffaloe's teacher, Shihan Shigeru Oyama, was the top Karate master and fight trainer in the entire Kyokushin Karate organization. Kenny has just passed on to Christian the wisdom and knowledge that he learned from the 44 years of training he received from him as his direct student.
