The Jo Story Senior Center will have a better way to promote its events thanks to a sign donation by East Tenth Church of Christ.
The church recently upgraded to a digital sign to post information and quotations and the senior center needed a new one, Jo Story Supervisor Thomas Goble said at the unveiling today.
“The main reason we wanted a new sign was to let people know what’s going on,” he said, having the ability to spread a visible word of events, services and other programs.
Larry Beale, who serves on the senior advisory board and is an elder at the church, informed the senior board about the church’s old sign.

Lynch’s Signs and Graphics refurbished the sign, which will be illuminated at night, and placed it where the old, smaller sign was located at the corner of Jackson and Seventh streets. “They did a great job refurbishing it,” Goble said.
A new sign would have probably cost between $7,000 to $8,000, he said. “Lynch’s got the sign, repainted it and put our graphics on it.”
Dave Chapman, pastor of East Tenth Street, said, “We thought it was great for the city to use. We couldn’t think of any place better than right here.”
The finishing touches for the area where the sign is located will include some landscaping and putting up the initial messages, Goble said.
“We’re very fortunate to have the volunteers and community support that we have at the Jo Story Senior Center,” Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon said. “We appreciate the support of East Tenth Street Church of Christ.”
Simeon said besides the savings realized from the donation, “We have the ability to let people know what’s going on at the Jo Story Senior Center.”
