Former Jacket Hernandez part of Pirates World Series Champions

Roanoke Rapids Alumnus and East Carolina University senior Abel Hernandez added a National Championship to his resume this past Thursday.

Hernandez, a 2012 Yellow Jacket baseball graduate of Roanoke Rapids High wrapped up his collegiate baseball career Thursday night in Holly Springs as the East Carolina National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) team won the Division 1 NCBA 2017 World Series Championship.

ECU's Nick Venditti launched a hit into left-center field in the 10th inning of a 0-0 game, and Tyler Sholar took off from second base before flinging himself headfirst into home plate. With his slide came a rush of his teammates onto the field with a 1-0 triumph over Central Florida and a national championship for the Pirates' club team

Hernandez finished the 2017 season with a .375 hitting average.
