The Roanoke Rapids travel baseball team, the Raptors, won the Battle of Da Burg in Williamsburg over this past weekend.
The team has played baseball together for the last eight years. This Williamsburg weekend series was their final tournament as a team.
In Pool play on Saturday at noon the Raptors beat Tri-County 9-6 and then at 2 p.m. beat the Virginia Venom 8-4. On Sunday's pool play the Raptors lost to the Hit Doctors 3-1, but advanced to the championship game against Hit Doctors.
In the Championship game, the Virginia based Hit Doctor’s 17u showcased player Adam Brooks was not enough to stop the Roanoke Rapids Raptors from winning the Battle of Da Burg Championship.
Brooks, who is committed to play baseball at Virginia Wesleyan College, pitched 5.2 innings with 11 strikeouts but it was not enough as the Raptors scored one in the second and 3 in the fourth with Colby Warren hitting a homerun. The Raptors defeated the Hit Doctor’s 4-1 taking the championship. Joshua Elias pitched all six innings for the Raptors taking the game ball home. Coaches Wilton Rogerson and Jase Elias expressed their joy in such a fantastic finish congratulating the players and wishing them well.
