The Scotland Neck-based Our Community Hospital will cease to operate its acute inpatient, outpatient and emergency services.
According to a notice on its website, these operations will cease at 7 p.m. Sunday.
The post says, however, OCH will continue to operate long term care and assisted living services as Bryan Health and Rehab.

In an article posted Wednesday on North Carolina Health News, the decision comes nearly 70 years after OCH first opened its doors.
In the article, the hospital’s administrator, Tom Majure, said the facility has been losing money for eight years and he and the hospital’s board could no longer find a way to make it financially viable.
Seventy percent of patients were on Medicaid and Medicare, and another 20 percent were self-pay, Majure said.
The article said just 6 to 8 percent were on private insurance, which reimburses at the highest rates. Many of the private insurance patients had large deductibles and coinsurance they couldn’t afford, which turned them into self-pay or charity care cases.
The bigger problem, according to the article, was the 20-bed hospital’s shrinking patient volume.
“At the present rate if they were private pay and we collected every penny, we still would be losing money,” Majure told the news site
