FOREST, Va. – Sophomore Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) is beginning 2018 with her fourth Player of the Week nod from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
It's Williams' second honor in a row after earning it for the previous week ending on December 18. She was honored for the first week and second weeks of the season (Nov. 20 and Nov. 27). This is Williams' eighth Player of the Week selection in her career.
Williams helped the Yellow Jackets go 2-0 over the nominating period. On December 18, she played a crucial role against the Lycoming Warriors in a 70-63 win for R-MC. Williams finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds as well as five blocks in that game. On Saturday night, Williams pushed Randolph-Macon ahead for the 71-64 overtime victory against Johns Hopkins. Williams got five critical 4th quarter blocks that helped ensure the game stayed close. She also scored 22 points and hauled in 22 rebounds in the game as well as totaled nine blocks in the whole game.
The JHU game was Williams' ninth double-double of the season in ten games. She is tied for second in the nation for most double-doubles along with five other Division III Women's Basketball student athletes.
Williams is also a national leader in rebounds and blocks per game at 19.3 and 4.5 respectively. She is sixth in the country for point per game with 23.9. In terms of rebounds, she ranks third with 196 and second in total blocked shots with 45. She is 11th for total points scored with 239.
In each of the above categories, she is the conference leader as well.
