As Roanoke Rapids police detectives continue to investigate a shooting which occurred during a party at AMVETS Post 320 last month, investigators Tuesday arrested a woman for reportedly taking the victim’s phone from him after he was shot.
Captain Bobby Martin said it was not clear why Doris Lavenia Bynum, 45, allegedly took the victim’s phone. He said the Halifax woman was apparently there to pick up her children.
Investigators G.L. Williams and O.L. Wiltsie arrested and charged Bynum with common law robbery in the case, Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement.
She was also served an unrelated outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon for an investigation which took place in September by Wiltsie.
Bynum received a $20,000 bond and February 7 court date.
Bynum is the third person to be charged in the December 15 case and investigators continue to try to identify the shooter.
Last week the woman identified as the organizer of the party was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The charge against 18-year-old Emya Jahne Boone stems from her being in charge of a party where minors consumed alcohol and engaged in other illegal activity such as smoking marijuana.
From what investigation has shown, minors ranging in age from 14 to 18 attended the party located at the post home on East Eighth Street.
Donovan Demetree Edwards, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possession of firearm by felon and simple affray.
Edwards attended the party while allegedly in possession of a weapon.
The victim in the case remains hospitalized and continues to undergo treatment for the injuries sustained when he was shot numerous times in the torso.
Investigators believe at some point during the party there was an altercation which led to the shooting.
