John Meredith Allen Jr., 72, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Johnny was born March 7, 1945, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, the son of the late John Meredith Allen, Sr. and Maybelle Edwards Allen. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Thomas Bartholomew.
He was the retired owner and operator of Allen’s Auto Service. He enjoyed old cars and was an active member of the Stray Cats Car Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Shirley Hargrave Allen; daughter Jennifer A. Pinyan and husband Steve; son John M. Allen, III; grandchildren Cassidy Pinyan, Kellie Pinyan and Wesley Allen. His sister Joyce Fields and husband Tommy, brother-in-law Clyde Hargrave and wife Pam, sister-in-law Susan Larkins and husband Al. A special nephew Seth Hargrave, and many other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, 1015 West Fifth Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Thursday, March 1, 2018, at 3:00 PM, with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.
The family will receive at the funeral home following the service.
