The Roanoke Rapids High School Varsity Baseball team fell to Bertie in their season opener by a score of 10-2 Monday.
Cameron Medlin and Ethan Vincent pitched for the Yellow Jackets with Medlin taking the loss.
Ethan Vincent had a single and 2 RBI for Jackets at the plate. Other Jackets collecting hits were Colin Long, Cameron Salmon, Peyton Jackson, and Caleb Johnson.
Coach Mark Snead stated, "We had a lot of first game jitters tonight, with most of these guys starting in their first Varsity game. We know we are a better team than the score indicates. We will regroup and work hard to get better each day. These guys know that the best attribute of a baseball player is a short memory. We will learn from this game and move on."
The Yellow Jackets will open up conference play today against Granville Central with home game time is 6PM at Doyle Field.
