City County Drug Task Force agents made a second prostitution arrest in two days after receiving a complaint of illegal activity at a Roanoke Rapids hotel.
Captain A.M. Harris said while prostitution is not a widespread problem in the area, law enforcement does get complaints “every now and then.”
The second arrest this week came today before noon after the task force sent an agent to a hotel in an undercover capacity.
The sting was based on two weeks of complaints about suspected prostitution and drug sales from a hotel in the area of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and Hampton Boulevard. Officers from the Weldon Police Department made the complaints, Harris said in a statement.
The woman charged, Debbie Renae Crowell, 35, had been staying in a Weldon motel but moved this morning to one in Roanoke Rapids, Harris said.
Crowell was arrested for soliciting prostitution and possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce.
Agents arrested a Roanoke Rapids woman Monday after receiving complaints.
Crowell received a $1,000 bond and March 21 court date.
