
ASHLAND, Va. – Sophomore Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) has been named the D3hoops.com South Region Player of the Year. The vote encompasses players in each region of the country and are nominated and voted on by the country's sports information directors. Williams has also earned a spot on the All-Region First Team and will be eligible for a D3hoops.com All-American selection. This is the 17th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 21st annual All-American selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book. Williams was selected to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference First Team as well as named the conference Player of the Year and the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She set new R-MC and ODAC records with her play in 2017-18. She finished the season with 736 points and 527 rebounds, both single-season records for the school and the ODAC. Williams was a national leader across much of the season in points per game, rebounds per game and blocks per game and, at times, led in all three categories. Williams set new tournament records for total points scored (79) and total rebounds (60) in a single ODAC Tournament. Williams is featured in Sports Illustrated this week as a "Face in the Crowd."
