2016 Dylan Days set

Dylan Moore Days Celebration has been set for September 16-18, 2016.

Dylan Moore Days is not only about celebrating the life of a special little boy that the community adopted as the "Roanoke Valley Cowboy"; it is also about "paying it forward".  The Moore family received an overwhelming amount of support during Dylan's illness and has made Dylan Moore Days an annual event benefit to help other families going through a medical crisis.

Dylan was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2004 known as Fanconi Anemia.  www.fanconi.org.  The community embraced him, providing fundraisers and a great deal of love.  They fought along with his family, celebrating all the little triumphs during his long battle.  On July 26, 2009, a hush came over the valley when the news arrived that Dylan was gone.  The Roanoke Valley and much of the surrounding region was swallowed up in grief.

He inspired thousands of people to love, believe, hope, and care. No matter how bad things got, Dylan always "cowboyed up"! To recognize the courage that this young man displayed, the city of Roanoke Rapids proclaimed September 18 (Dylan's birthday) as Dylan Moore Day. This day is an opportunity for the community to come together in an effort to never let the memory of young Dylan fade from our thoughts.

Dylan's family had been so overwhelmed by the support they received, they knew they would never be able to pay it all back, so they decided to “pay it forward”.  They decided to make Dylan Moore Day, not only an annual  celebration of Dylan’s life, but a benefit to raise funds for another family in the community going through a medical crisis. It was such a huge success, Dylan's family decided to make it an annual event.

Since 2010, Dylan Days has raised over $56,000 for local families going through a medical crisis.  This would not be possible without all of the volunteers, donors, and sponsors!!!  Thank each and every one of you that helps make this event a huge success each year, rain or shine!!

Dylan Days 2016 beneficiaries are Harrison West, Angie Benthall, and Tommy Garner. Harrison is battling Ewing Sarcoma.  Angie was hospitalized for several months after developing an infection while delivering her son.  She has several months of rehab before she will be able to return to work.  Tommy has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma and received a stem cell transplant at UNC in June.

This year the Roanoke Rapids JROTC will be hosting a trail ride on Saturday, September 17th held in conjunction with Dylan Moore Days and will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Dylan Days. With onsite camping starting Friday night the 16th.  Dinner Saturday night followed by a live auction, candlelight and luminary service closed out with a dance until 11PM.

Sunday will be filled with a full day of  actives starting with breakfast then cowboy church service, the horse show, Barbeque lunch, Dylan trivia contest, balloon release, birthday cake,  Corn hole tournament and Chinese auction drawings.
