A breaking and entering suspect who has been the target of an all-day search is in custody.
Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty declined to immediately release the man’s name as no charges have been filed as of this report.
Hasty said investigators are working to determine what charges will be filed.
The man was the suspect in a breaking and entering early this morning in the 500 block of Raleigh Street.
In a statement released around 10:30 this morning the police department said around 3:30 a.m. Halifax Central received a call in which the occupant of a residence reported they had shot at an intruder three times before the suspect ran out the back door.
The police department said in the statement the breaking and entering victim told officers they were awakened by noise, retrieved a firearm and then confronted the suspect.
The occupant discharged the firearm at least three times, striking the suspect at least once.
