
The 2016 Cross Country season got underway Wednesday afternoon here in Roanoke Rapids.
Roanoke Rapids High School Cross Country team hosted Northern Nash, Rocky Mount, Northampton County, Cornerstone Christian, and Henderson Collegiate teams in the annual Roanoke Rapids Invitational.
In the Men's race, Northern Nash took first place followed by Rocky Mount in second and RRHS finishing third.
Leading Runners for RRHS were Eric Baird, Kenny Odom, Matthew Price, Ryan Harrison, and Alex Leard.
Leading Runner for Northampton County was Timothy Britt.
Leading Runners for Cornerstone Christian were Nathan Walker, Gabrielle Rowland, Jack Tyner, and Avery Pepper.
In the Women's race, Northern Nash took first place followed by Rocky Mount in second and Northampton County finishing third.
Leading Runners for RRHS were Kate Pleasant, Caitlin Bobbitt, and Alexis Karns.
Leading Runners for Northampton County were Bryonna Woofter, Lashauna Joyner, Odaly Campos, Katlyn Farrow, and Lillie Bass.
Leading Runners for Cornerstone Christian were Ella Frances King, Anna Grace King, Haley Adams, and Virginia Standerends.
RRHS Coach Mark Snead stated, "This was a good first meet of the season. We had a strong group of runners from all the schools involved. I was really happy with our teams today. They went out and set some good base times for the season. Now we have to go out each day and work hard to try to drop those times for our next meet. I am really proud of our runners today."
The next cross country meet for RRHS will be a conference meet at NCSSM on Tuesday August 30
