A follow-up on drug complaints in the Lincoln Street area outside Roanoke Rapids led to the arrest of a 30-year-old man and a request for federal adoption of his case.
City County Drug Task Force Captain A.M. Harris said agents D.R. Radford and D.W. McKeel encountered Jermaine Hale around 1 p.m. today.
During the encounter Harris said in a statement Hale, who lists a Roanoke Avenue address, “was acting very suspicious.”
Harris explained this evening Hale wasn’t following commands and wouldn’t keep his hands where the agents could see them. When he tried to get away a stun gun was deployed.
Harris said Hale was not injured and did not have to seek medical attention after the Taser was deployed.
Agents had received several complaints about Hale, Harris said.
After the encounter, agents seized 16 grams of crack cocaine, 17.6 grams of powdered cocaine, 29.2 grams of marijuana, nine Alprazolam pills, plastic bags, a handgun and currency.
Hale was arrested for resisting a public officer, possession of marijuana more than one-half ounce to 1 ½ ounces, simple possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, two counts of trafficking in cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possess drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and possession of a firearm by felon.
Hale received a $30,000 bond with a January 25 court date.
Because of his criminal background, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and explosives was contacted.
His criminal record dates back to 2004 and includes a most recent prison stint in 2010, according to state Department of Public Safety records.
