The annual Christmas for Kids shopping spree helped a record of number of children today.
Roanoke Rapids police officers, the department's Citizens on Patrol, other law enforcement, the Roanoke Rapids Fire Department and Roanoke Valley Distinguished Young Woman shopped for 30 city children.

Record fundraising and donations helped make the event a success, police Chief Chuck Hasty said.
