Man charged as habitual felon after store BE&L probe

An Enfield man who allegedly broke-in and stole from a local convenience store, including its cash register, was arrested today after a four-month investigation.

Silver Douglas

Enfield police Chief Tyree Davis said 53-year-old Douglas Earl Silver reportedly stole several thousand dollars worth of merchandise and cash from the store on September 18.
The items taken included an undisclosed amount of money from an undisclosed location in the store; packs and cartons of cigarettes and the cash register, which Davis said only contained change.
Silver was reportedly using the stolen items to trade for drugs, Davis said.
In a statement on the matter, Davis said Detective Willie Murphy Jr. arrested and charged Silver today with felony habitual breaking and entering; felony larceny after breaking and entering and felony possession of stolen goods.
He was issued a $10,000 bond and his court date is set for December 21.
Officer Tim Parker assisted Murphy in the investigation.

In an unrelated matter Davis reported in a statement Murphy, Corporal Ethan Williams and Captain Dreher Bozard responded to the area near M&C Mart Sunday night after receiving a report a man possibly stole items from Speedway.
They received information Michael Gunter of Enfield had an active criminal summons from Wake County.
Gunter was not compliant with the officers and would not give them correct information. He attempted to leave, but officers gained control of him and arrested him for resisting a public officer.
He was transported to the Halifax County Magistrate’s Office where he received a court date of January 20 and a $750 bond.
