The State Board of Community Colleges approved the selection of Michael Elam as the fifth president of Halifax Community College.
Elam, the former president of Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie, replaces Ervin Griffin Sr., who will retire on February 1.
Elam begins his tenure at Halifax next year and was chosen from a field of six finalists.
