
DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team finished 2-0 in the Daytona Beach Shootout with a 77-67 victory over Wheaton (Mass.).
R-MC shot 53% from the field as it came from behind at half to win the game.
Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) led all scorers with 23 points. She went 9 for 11 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
With five minutes remaining in the first quarter, Wheaton led R-MC 10-7. The Yellow Jackets would go on a 12-4 runt to take 19-14 lead at the end of the first period.
R-MC improves to 5-3 after two wins in the Daytona Beach Shootout over Edgewood and Wheaton.
At the half R-MC trailed 34-31. Kelly Williams led the team in scoring with 11 points after going 5 for 6 from the floor.
The third quarter saw the Yellow Jackets outscore Wheaton 24-19. The game had 10 ties and 10 lead changes throughout.
Junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) had an outstanding two games in Daytona Beach, she finished the game with 17 points, eight assists, two steals and two assists. She went 6 of 10 from the field and 5 of 5 from the stripe in the win.
R-MC once again dominated the boards, outrebounding the opponent 35-22, with 15 of those being offensive rebounds. Williams and Lee grabbed eight boards each.
Two other Yellow Jackets were in double figures on the day. Sophomore Kelsey Wisner (York, Pa./ Central York) and junior Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) both scored 10 points.
Abby Hamilton led in points for Wheaton with 17 points.
R-MC will be back on the court on December 30 when it travels to Elizabethtown.
