The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office is still trying to determine motive in the Monday morning murder of a 19-year-old Como man.

Captain Patrick Jacobs said investigators are not sure why Richard McJoe was at the residence of 57-year-old Robert Sears, who was charged in his murder.
Sheriff Jack Smith would only say there was a gathering of people at the Sears residence, which is located in the Pendleton area off Vaughan Creek Road.
In a statement, Jacobs said the sheriff’s office responded to a call shortly after 3:45 a.m. and deputies found a man inside dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Upon investigation by responding detectives, Sears was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and was jailed without opportunity for bond.
Sears has a first court appearance scheduled for Thursday in Jackson.
In the statement Smith acknowledged Northampton County EMS as well as his officers — Lieutenant J. Jenkins; sergeants A. Roye, D. Shephard and A. Johnson; deputies T. Worrell and K. Byrum.
The Murfreesboro Police Department, and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office also assisted.
