The Roanoke Rapids High School JV Baseball team opened their 2017 season off at home on Doyle Field under leadership of new head coach Aubrey Coker hosting Rocky Mount Monday night.
The JV Jackets fell 8-6 to Rocky Mount in an extra inning. The JV Jackets tied the game up 6-6 in the bottom of the 7th and then Rocky Mount scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th and Roanoke Rapids couldn't answer.
Ethan Vincent pitched 4 innings and Cameron Medlin pitched 4 for the JV Jackets. " Both pitchers did well and got themselves out of innings when they needed too and showed composure." Stated head coach Coker.
"Colin Long went 3 for 4 at the plate and played solid defensively at short stop." added Coker.
"Cameron Wilson went 2 for 4 at the plate and made good decisions on the base path which tied the game up to force extra innings." said Coker.
Post game comments from coach Coker, "All in all we still have a lot of work to do and plenty room for improvement. We need to be more aggressive at the plate and make better decisions on the base path. Routine plays which turned into Errors cost us runs as well as being out of position a few times. We need to work harder on fundamentals and being a disciplined baseball team."
