Jackets baseball beat Raiders Friday night at Doyle field

The Roanoke Rapids High School Yellow Jackets Varsity Baseball team picked up a conference win against Southern Vance on Friday night at Doyle Field by a score of 11-1.

Colby Warren started on the mound and picked up the win pitching 4 innings, giving up 1 unearned run on 2 hits while striking out 7 batters.  Cameron Medlin, called up from the JV team for the game, pitched 1 inning in relief and struck out all 3 batters he faced.  Jake Van Dam, also called up from the JV team for the game, pitched 1 scoreless inning to close out the game.

The Yellow Jackets were led on offense by Hunter Connell with 2 hits (2B, 3B) and 4 RBI, Marcus Allen with 2 hits (2B) and 2 RBI, and Colby Warren with a Homerun and 2RBI.  Bracy Irby, Tyler Liverman, Josh Elias, and Tommy Bradley also had hits in the game.  Cameron Rogerson scored 3 runs with 3 stolen bases after collecting 3 walks.

Post game coach Mark Snead stated, "We have talked all year about how it takes everyone to come together to help us become a great team.  Tonight was a great example of this.  Due to some nagging injuries and illnesses, we adjusted some positions today and each player came through.  I have bragged all season about our versatility and how I trust each player to step up and produce when their time comes.  They all did that tonight and then some.  Colby pitched another strong game.  Then Cameron and Jake came in and got their first Varsity innings and did great.  I am so proud of the whole team tonight."

With the win, RRHS improves to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the Northern Carolina Conference.  The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be on Monday as they travel to the historic Durham Athletic Park to take on the Durham School of the Arts.  Game time is set for 6pm.
