The Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets softball team honored area firefighters, EMT's, police, active military and veterans Friday night with a "Heroes Night.
All local firefighters, EMT's, police, active military and veterans were admitted to the game against Southern Vance free and Roanoke Rapids Fire Chief Stacy Coggins threw out first pitch for the Lady Jackets game.
The Jackets team sang the National Anthem and then followed with a 4-1 over the Raiders of Southern Vance.
It wasn't an easy win for sure. The Jackets let the Raiders load the bases twice with no outs, but senior pitcher Breanna Allen and her teammates worked there way out those times. Allen did walk the only run in with the bases loaded in the second inning. Allen pitched all seven innings allowing five hits, 11 strike-outs, four walks and three hit by pitch.
The Lady Jackets only had five hits as well. Senior Breanna Allen lead with a single, a double and one RBI, Abbi Carpenter had two singles and one RBI, Senior Hayley Farrow had a single.
Post game comments from Jackets head coach Steve Milligan, "Happy for the win but we didn't play up to our potential and for us to be competitive in this league"
