Belfield takes plea on two counts

Michael Rakim Belfield Tuesday entered a guilty plea on his federal drug trafficking and weapon case, an entry in the court record confirms.

Belfield appeared before District Judge Terrence Boyle, along with counsel at the federal courthouse in Raleigh.
The assistant United States attorney was also present and Belfield entered a guilty plea on the first and third counts of the three-count indictment against him.
The first count against him charges on April 16 of last year, having already been convicted of a crime punishable by a prison term of more than one year, he knowingly possessed a firearm in violation of United States Code.The third count charges he possessed a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The count to be dismissed, Count 2, charges he knowingly and intentionally possessed cocaine with the intent to distribute
Boyle set sentencing for the court’s August 7 term at a time and location to be determined later.
He was remanded back to federal custody.
The federal charges against him stem from his arrest last year on Dickens Avenue outside Roanoke Rapids where City County Drug Task Force agents found 36 bindles of heroin.
