A Roanoke Rapids woman was charged Wednesday with a sex offense involving a minor child.
Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty said the victim in the case, a child who was not under the age of 13, was an acquaintance of the woman charged, Chastity Dawn Keeter, 29.
Hasty declined comment on the gender or age of the victim.
Investigation by Investigator Gorton Williams led to charges of statutory rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was jailed on $80,000 bond and given an October 19 court date.
Investigation of the case began Tuesday when the police department received a call around 8:45 p.m. of a sex offense involving a minor in the 400 block of Wallace Fork Road, Hasty said in a statement.
Lieutenant Perry Parks responded to investigate. The parent reported there was inappropriate conduct between their child and Keeter.
Investigation by Williams led to the warrants against Keeter.
