Eleven Roanoke Rapids High School Band members had the honor of being invited to play with the University of North Carolina Marching Band before the game and at halftime on Saturday as the Tar Heels took on the Citadel Bulldogs.
They were part of an all-star lineup of high school band members from all over North Carolina.
They were led onto the field by RRHS senior Jill Harvey. When asked why she got to lead the band she stated, "Because I have a cape!"
The RRHS students awarded with the honor included: Isaac Mosely-Trumpet, William Ullrich-Alto Saxophone, Jared Burch-Mellophone, Jill Harvey-Piccolo, Cheyenne Gross-Color Guard, Melanie Oglesby-Alto Saxophone, Katleynn Porch-Trombone, Samantha King-Piccolo, Tracie Sanders-Color Guard, Caitlin Allen-Clarinet, and Jonathan Rose-Trombone.
It was an opportunity to be seen and heard before a near sell out college football crowd and one that the students will never forget. It was also a recruiting opportunity for the University of North Carolina. Perhaps these students will be official Tar Heel Band members in the near future, and if not, band members at other colleges and universities of their choosing.
