A county school employee surrendered to law enforcement today to face a charge of indecent liberties between a school employee and student stemming from what is commonly called sexting.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said the man charged, Carlton Junior Gilchrist, 44, of Littleton, was not employed as a teacher. The sheriff declined to name the school he worked at.
In a statement on the matter Tripp said the arrest stemmed from an investigation by Detective B.C. Griffin into a report of indecent liberties which reportedly occurred on December 9.
The alleged indecent liberties took the form of text message and other electronic communication with a student which the sheriff said in the statement was sexually explicit.
Gilchrist received a $20,000 bond and was ordered to not be on any Halifax County school system property for any reason.
He has a February 22 court date.
