Williams earns fifth double double of the season

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Randolph-Macon women's basketball team fell to Elizabethtown 50-41 on Friday night. Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) led the team with her fifth double double of the season scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Williams opened the scoring in the game, which was quickly followed by a three pointer by senior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./ Fairfax) to give R-MC a 5-2 early lead. The Yellow Jackets were outscored 11-9 in the first quarter.

At the half R-MC trailed 24-17. Juniors Kareema Conteh (Riverdale, Md./ Parkdale) and Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) led the team with four points each. R-MC scored nine points off of turnovers in the first half.

In the third period, R-MC trailed 34-22 but would go on a 5-0 run to end the period, cutting the lead to seven points.

Elizabethtown (9-1) would go on to beat R-MC (5-4) 50-41.

The Yellow Jackets forced 20 turnovers from Elizabethtown, scoring 16 points off of them. The R-MC bench contributed with 12 points. Conteh led the bench shooting 4 of 9 from the field with nine points, four assists, six rebounds and two steals.

Lee finished with a team high 12 rebounds, six of which were offensive. She also finished with six points, two steals and a block.

R-MC will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Franklin & Marshall at 1:00 p.m.
